French Table Linens
|
One of the most important part of French Country decor is table linens. The table is a central point of a living room or a dining room. Important gatherings with friends and family usually happen around the table. In France, a family dinner can last for many hours where guests do not leave the table. The table can be covered with a tablecloth. If the table is too pretty to cover, placemats and/or a runner can be used to protect it.
The fabrics used to make French table linens can be categorized as printed and jacquard (also known as damask). The printed table linens are made with a blank fabric, usually white, on which deigns are printed in multiple colors. This type fabric is also known as Indienne as the practice originated in India. The provencal table linens and toile table linens fall under this category. The typical provencal tableclothes and placemats are usually made of cotton that can be coated with a thin layer of acrylic to make them stain resistant. They are also increasingly being made entirely of polyester, naturally stain resistant. The jacquard or damask table linens are made of fabric in which the designs are woven. They usually cost more as they have to be made using more inctricate weaving techniques. They are typically made stain resistant with Teflon® that is sprayed on the fabric.
Below, you will find several categories to help you pick the perfect table linens for your home. The printed tablecloths are split in a coated, an uncoated and a toile categories. We have a category for jacquard tablecloths and one for solid color tablecloths. The other categories are for chair pads, table runners, napkins and fabric swatches. Please note that if you need napkins that match our tablecloths, you should look under the appropriate tablecloth listing.
