The small village of Laguiole (the locals say "La-yoll") in Southern France is famous worldwide for of its knives. Following a tradition dating from the 19th century, the Laguiole knives are still made in much the same way today. Why are the Laguiole knives so popular? It comes down to three basic ingredients: they are beautiful, high quality and they cut really really well!
Among the various manufacturers of Laguiole knives, one name rises above the rest: Goyon-Chazeau. These knives are entirely made by hand in-house, step-by-step, from raw stainless-steel and precious woods by skilled artisans. You can see the process involved to create each and every knife in the manufacturer's video below. Traditional bees adorn these exquisite knives. The thick blades are forged for unmatched strength and durability. They are stainless steel with handles carved of exotic woods: olive wood, juniper, rosewood, kingwood, boxwood, and sandalwood. The entire knife is smoothed to perfection and the result is a product that looks more like fine jewelry that tableware! These knives can be sharpened over and over and will last for many years to come. The six knives come in an attractive solid-oak, finger-jointed, storage box.
